Driving ’round for Christmas
What started out as a fun last minute idea just before Christmas 2018 has evolved into a mini-series of photoshop chops, now in its third iteration. Certain elements stay the same every year, but the main subject is always something different. However, while finishing the Modulo I discovered something that happened unintentionally. All three rides Santa proudly parks in his stable have something more in common than just graphic elements: Each one is based on a very low-volume or one-off classic vehicle that predicted how the future could look like a couple of decades ahead. What the designers imagined back then is the future we live in now.
2020 Christmas Ride | Ferrari 512 S Modulo BEV
Last year, Santa enjoyed driving the customized Hispano Suiza H6C Xenia Dubonnet by Saoutchik, but complained about the lack of traction from the RWD drivetrain. Adding traction was an easy task: The snowmobile conversion should enable Santa to reach every chimney without ever getting stuck again.
The 1970 Ferrari 512 S Modulo pinned by Paolo Martin for Pininfarina is five decades old now, but still looks futuristic today with very few modifications.
2020 has been a remarkable year that changed the world in many ways. The automotive industry has seen a shift towards plug-in [EV] and battery electric vehicles [BEV] in the last couple of years. This transformation has gained even more momentum this year. The future is now and Santa acknowledges it by driving this slick sled, powered by environmentally friendly Polar Lights energy his raindeers have harvested carefully.

2019 Christmas Ride | Hispano Suiza H6C Xenia Dubonnet by Saoutchik
Last year, Santa enjoyed driving the widebody kitted Bugatti EB110 but complained about missing the forward view over raindeer antlers. Adding antlers was an easy task and even though this years’ ride doesn’t provide a raindeer butt for him to look at during the long journey, I’m fairly certain that he will enjoy the ride in this custom sled. Who wouldn’t want to deliver beautifully wrapped packages in style, with this Hispano Suiza H6C Xenia Dubonnet by Saoutchik?
